48 Hours in Cape Town: Where to Stay, Eat, and What to Do

Cape Town is one of those places that feels bigger than a weekend but still manages to deliver a full experience in just a couple of days. Between the mountains, the ocean, and the wine country, everything feels layered and visually striking. It is also far easier to get to than most people think, with direct flights from New York, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C., which makes a quick trip surprisingly doable.

Where We Stayed

Noah House

6 Tamboerskloof Road, Tamboerskloof, Cape Town, 8001

We based ourselves at Noah House, a boutique stay just off Kloof Street that immediately set the tone for the trip. It has that perfect mix of design and comfort without feeling overdone. The location made everything easy. We could walk to restaurants, pop out for coffee, and still feel tucked away from the busier parts of the city.

What We Did

Stellenbosch Day Tour

A day in the Cape Winelands is non negotiable. Stellenbosch is about an hour from the city, and the change in scenery is immediate. Vineyards stretch in every direction with mountains in the background, and each stop feels polished but relaxed. Tastings are unhurried, the settings are beautiful, and it never feels overcrowded.

Cape Peninsula Tour

This was easily one of the most scenic drives we have done anywhere. The route takes you along Chapman’s Peak Drive, where the views constantly pull your attention back to the ocean. From there, you continue down to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, and the landscapes feel almost cinematic. We also stopped at Boulders Beach to see the penguins, which is absolutely worth it.

Bo-Kaap

A walk through Bo-Kaap is worth carving out time for. The brightly colored houses and cobblestone streets make it one of the most photographed neighborhoods in Cape Town, but it also has a strong cultural history that gives it more depth than just a quick photo stop.

Where We Ate and Drank

Kloof Street quickly became our anchor for the trip. It is lively without being overwhelming and lined with restaurants, bars, and cafés, making it easy to move from one place to the next without much planning.

Kloof Street House

30 Kloof Street, Gardens, Cape Town

Mondays 11am till late

Tuesday to Sunday 10am till late

This was one of the most memorable dinners of the trip. The setting does a lot of the work here. It is inside a Victorian house with layered rooms, a garden, low lighting, and that slightly eclectic energy that makes dinner feel like an experience rather than just a reservation.

Noodle Box

50 Kloof Street, Gardens, Cape Town, 8001

Daily 11:30am to 8:30pm

This became one of our favorite casual stops. Quick, easy, and consistently good. Exactly the kind of place you want when you are not looking for a full drawn out meal but still want something satisfying.

Minato Sushi

71 Waterkant Street, Cape Town

Daily 12pm to 9pm

The sushi rolls here were one of our favorites. Fresh, reliable, and well priced. It is one of those spots that is easy to return to because it just works.

Blondies

71 Kloof Street, Gardens, Cape Town

Tuesday to Sunday 12pm to 12am

This was one of the more fun stops of the trip. The Palomas stood out, and it has that kind of social energy where you plan for one drink and end up staying longer. A good Kloof Street spot when you want the night to feel easy.

Athletic Social Club

35 Buitengracht Street, CBD, Cape Town

Monday 4pm to 11pm

Tuesday 12pm to 11pm

Wednesday 12pm to 12am

Thursday to Saturday 12pm to 2am

We came here for mocktails and stayed for the ambiance. Stylish but still relaxed, and a good option when you want something a little moodier and more design forward without it feeling overdone.

Our Favorite Cafe for Easy Mornings

Rosetta Roastery

97 Bree Street, corner of Bree Street and Shortmarket Street, Cape Town

Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm

Saturday 8am to 4pm

Sunday and public holidays 8am to 2pm

Great coffee, and the banana bread is worth ordering. This was an easy morning stop and the kind of place that fits naturally into a slower start before heading out for the day.
