First Time Visiting a Pumpkin Patch
After 45 years on Earth, my best friend, Connie, finally took me to a pumpkin patch. Located in Half Moon Bay, we stopped by Andreotti Farms and had a great time with the colorful pumpkins, gourds, and sunflowers. Luckily for us, the October weather was beautiful, lots of sunshine and blue skies, ideal for photos.
I researched the tradition of the pumpkin patch and it started out from the Scottish Irish immigrants who brought the idea of carving jack-o-lanterns. They originally used carved out turnips to put candles inside to ward off evil spirits but eventually adopted the pumpkin instead. It didn’t hurt that they are a lot easier to carve than turnips. So interesting, right?
This is an American tradition I can get into. Next time, I’ll bring my bulldog, Ibsen. Go visit your local pumpkin patch and support your farmer.
